Overview
You have been scheduled for a Uroflow study, which is a urine flow rate test. We will be doing this testing here in our Fresno office.
Description of Uroflow
Uroflow is a study to determine the flow rate of your urine during urination (voiding). To make sure the test is done properly you must come to the office with a full bladder. DO NOT URINATE BEFORE YOUR STUDY. You will be asked upon arrival to void into a special toilet that contains a measuring device in a private room. The device measures the force of your urinary stream, so you must try to void with as much force as possible. Immediately after your Uroflow study a bladder scan (ultrasound) will be done to measure your post-void residual (PVR), or the amount of urine left in your bladder after voiding.
Possible Risks of Uroflow
There are no risks associated with this procedure.
Preparation for Uroflow
It is essential that you come to our office for your test with a full bladder. Try to drink 32 ounces or four cups of liquid one hour prior to your study. If for some reason you must void before the test starts, make sure that you drink plenty of fluids to refill your bladder as soon as possible. A full bladder will give the most accurate results.
