Robotic Surgery

davinci2The total removal of the kidney isn’t necessary in the treatment of specific tumors, claims the American Urological Society.  In the city of Carterville, patients now have the option of a partial nephrectomy.  The first partial nephrectomy was performed by Dr. Joel Rosen at Cartersville Medical Center, using the da Vinci Surgical System.

The partial nephrectomy is beneficial because the healthy part of the kidney may remain and continue to function.  This helps prevent chronic kidney disease after surgery, which is more common in patients who have had the whole kidney removed.

Other benefits of Partial Robotic Nephrectomy include cancer control, short hospital stays, minimal blood loss, precision in the removal of tumors, and a greater chance of preserving the kidney.
